Loving Kindness: Version Two

In this second version, you begin by sending loving kindness to yourself in exactly the same way as before.

Then you gradually widen the circle of your focus to larger groups of people, starting with your immediate surroundings. So, you might send loving kindness to all beings within the room, building or community that you are currently in. Recite your mantra several times, focusing your attention on the people in this area. Then you can widen this to all beings within the town, city or country, and finally to all beings on the planet:

May all beings be happy.

May all beings be healthy.

May all beings be free from all suffering.

May all beings be peaceful and at ease.
